Morsø and the environment
Mankind has been using fire to provide heat for thousands of years and much has changed since the open fires of our forbearers to the modern wood burning stove from Morsø.
The Morsø stove is an advanced system designed for burning wood and when used properly, it is among the most environmentally friendly heating solutions in the modern world.
Wood when used in a Morsø stove is an environmentally friendly source of energy, because wood is a renewable source unlike fossil fuels such as natural gas, oil and coal that have finite supplies. Wood-burning is also ‘carbon-neutral’, meaning that the CO2 released when burned is absorbed in the lifetime of the replanted tree.
Simply put, burning wood in a Morsø stove helps to reduce the ‘greenhouse effect’.

Morsø and standards Morsø produces some of the cleanest wood-burning stoves available; stoves that meet the strictest environmental standards in the world. Furthermore, to stress the environmental message, Morsø has also certified its stove line under the Nordic Swan Eco-label, a public environmental certification that sets standards for low particle emissions, high fuel efficiencies as well as the environmental impact of production and packaging. The Nordic Swan Eco-label demonstrates that Morsø stoves have the smallest environmental ‘footprint’ currently possible.
Eight pieces of good environmental advice from Morsø Notwithstanding, it is ultimately the responsibility of the user to operate the stove correctly so as to ensure that the stove burns in the most environmentally friendly way possible. . To ensure that your stove burns correctly, be sure to adopt the following eight environmental golden rules:
1. The chimney must be correctly sized and it must have the correct height in relation to the stove. Always make sure that the chimney terminates a minimum of 3’ above the roofline.
2. Carefully read and absorb the operating instructions of your stove before you begin to use it.
3. Use only clean, dry firewood. The wood must have a moisture content of no more than 18%, a Morsø moisture meter will help you to analyse your fuel.
4. Do not burn more wood at any one time than the manual specifies.
5. Air is vital for good, efficient combustion; always allow enough air into the stove to ensure that the wood produces flames before it chars.
6. Overnight fires are not environmentally-friendly or financially beneficial. Burning wood overnight with a minimum supply of air generates very low heat and increases smoke emissions, harming both the environment and the condition of chimney.
7. Never burn trash, milk cartons or painted, varnished, glued or impregnated wood.
8. Always make sure that you buy a stove that has the lowest particle emissions possible.
Environmentally friendly use of the stove.
