One of the most important pre-conditions for an efficient fireplace is the chimney. In principle, the chimney functions as the engine of the stove. If the installation does not produce the correct draught, it will not function as it should. New stoves place higher demands on, e.g., draught and chimney conditions than older stoves using traditional combustion principles.

Draught
Draught in the chimney is created as a result of the difference between the high temperature in the chimney and the relatively colder outside temperature.

Good draught is created when:
• There is a big difference between the temperature in the chimney and outside.
• The weather is clear.
• The chimney has the right height.

Reduced draught will occur when:
• The temperature difference is too small. For example, if the chimney is poorly insulated.
• The outside temperature is too high. For example, during the summer.
• There is no wind.
• The chimney does not have the right height, so that it is sheltered by the roof face and high trees. In these cases, there is a high risk of smoke coming back down the chimney.
• Air enters the chimney where it shouldn’t, e.g. through cracked joints.

Contact your chimney sweep to have your chimney regularly checked.

Installation
Installation in the UK must be carried out by a competent person. Your Morsø dealer will be happy to provide you with the necessary details. Morsø stoves can be connected to either brick or steel chimneys.

Brick chimney
If you want to connect your stove to a brick chimney, most Morsø stoves can use either a top flue or a rear flue. The stove is connected to the chimney via a register plate..

Steel chimney
As mentioned, Morsø stoves can use either a top flue or a rear flue, but in most cases the steel chimney is routed upwards from the Morsø stove using a top flue. Consult your Morsø dealer to discuss the steel chimney and its installation.
