Morsø and the environment
Mankind has been using fire to provide heat for thousands of years. But it's a long way from the open fires our forbears gathered around to a modern stove from Morsø.
A Morsø stove is an advanced system for burning wood and, used properly, is among the most environmentally friendly heating solutions in the world.
When a wood-burning stove is used, an environmentally correct energy source is being used, because wood is a non-fossil natural product. Burning wood is CO2-neutral, in the sense that the CO2 released by combustion was bound to the tree throughout its lifetime.
Wood is moreover one of the few energy sources that are renewable, as opposed to oil and gas. We can always plant new trees to replace the ones we have cut down.

Morsø and standards Morsø produces environmentally clean wood-burning stoves that meet the strictest environmental standards in the world, and naturally all Morsø stoves comply with European standard EN 13 240. This means that all our stoves are CE-marked. Many Morsø stoves are also tested in accordance with Norwegian Standard NS 3058/3059, which sets requirements for low particle emissions.
To further stress the environmental aspect, Morsø has also decided to certify most of its stoves under the Nordic Swan Eco-label. The Swan Eco-label is a public environmental certification that sets requirements not only for low particle emissions and high efficiency, but also ensures that the environment is taken into consideration in terms of production and packaging. The Swan Eco-label shows that these stoves are among those with the lowest environmental impacts on the market.
Eight pieces of good environmental advice from Morsø All these standards and certifications notwithstanding, it is ultimately up to the user to make sure that the stove burns in an environmentally friendly way. Morsø stoves are designed to burn optimally and in an environmentally correct way if they are fired and installed correctly. To ensure that your stove burns in an environmentally correct way, follow these eight pieces of environmental advice:
1. Ensure the stove is installed correctly as per manufacturers and building regulations by a suitably qualified person.
2. Always carefully read the user instructions that come with the stove before you begin firing it.
3. Use only clean, dry wood. The wood must have a moisture content of no more than 18%. You can make sure that the wood has the proper moisture content by using, for example, a Morsø moisture meter.
4. Do not burn more wood in the stove at one time than the manual specifies.
5. Air is vital for good combustion and economical use. Always supply enough air to ensure that the wood flames before it chars.
6. Do not fire the stove overnight, which is a very bad idea both environmentally and financially. Burning wood overnight with a minimum of air generates almost no heat, and harms both the environment and the chimney.
7. Never burn garbage, milk cartons or painted, varnished, glued or impregnated wood.
8. Always make sure to buy a stove that meets particle emis- sions requirements.
Environmentally friendly use of the stove.
